Senior Director of Accounting

Position Summary:

Vera Whole Health seeks an exceptional Senior Director of Accounting to join the Accounting Department to support our Controller with complex accounting challenges as Vera continues to grow and to manage the Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable and General Ledger teams. You will partner with Vera team members across the organization, providing your accounting savvy in support of highly detailed, and sometimes complex, accounting challenges. Position Qualifications/Essential Functions:

  • Supervise, develop and mentor the managers for the payables, receivables and general ledger functions.
  • Oversee all aspects of accounting operations including internal controls, revenue recognition, receivables, payables, expenses, commissions and equity accounting.
  • Manage short-term cash flow forecasting and management.
  • Review the monthly preparation of internal and external financial reports for stakeholders
  • Lead the corporate accounting team in the recognition of capitalized assets, including fixed assets, intangible assets, and various prepaid and other assets.
  • Ability to question and guide strategies around revenue recognition in accordance with ASC 606.
  • Serve as the company contact for external auditors for all financial and bank audits.
  • Evaluate and implement systems to further automate processes for efficiencies and effectiveness.
  • Act as a key process owner on internal controls and business processes. Recommend control changes and enhancements as needed.
  • Ensure Company and team members stay up-to-date on the various accounting pronouncements affecting such areas, including ASC 842.
  • Interact with cross functional colleagues and executives to provide meaningful information to evaluate operations and plans as they relate to any new business.
  • Oversee the admin for the accounting ERP software.
  • Ownership of establishing, monitoring, and enforcing internal controls.
  • Serve as the company liaison with the bank to ensure all banking needs are being met.
  • Work cross-departmentally supporting senior leaders and Vera’s strategic initiatives; Manages and executes large cross-divisional projects involving senior management
  • Administers the company’s T&E and P-Card programs; establishes and enforces policies and controls for such programs

Additional Qualifications Preferred:

  • Experience with identifying and implementing process improvements.
  • Experience leading, recruiting, and developing high-performing operational teams in a dynamic and ever-changing company environment.
  • Interact with cross functional colleagues and executives to provide meaningful information to evaluate operations and plans.
  • Extensive operational experience in continuous process improvement and innovative solutions.
  • Effectively leads collaboration and communication with all levels of management and cross-functional teams to deliver creative and balanced solutions with operational scalability and sustainability in mind.
  • Ability to make clear data-based decisions and experience-based judgement calls that are timely and in the best interests of the company and team.
  • Experience with multi entity accounting, including consolidations and the use of elimination entries.


  • 4-year degree in Accounting or Finance, or equivalent.
  • CPA/CMA, or equivalent, preferred.
  • Expert knowledge of GAAP and SOX.
  • Minimum 5 year proficiency with any major ERP system.
  • Minimum 5 year proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel (highly advanced Excel skills).
  • Minimum 8 years of increasing responsibility in problem solving and data analysis skills (e.g. reporting, reconciliations, analysis and review of financial data entry).
  • Minimum 5 years experience managing staff.
