Position Summary: This position is responsible for one or two product categories and/or special projects; including managing daily tasks related to garment fit, specifications, and the ability to interpret and translate the vision of the Designer into production. A successful Associate Technical Designer will be able to utilize their knowledge and experience to adopt product categories and work with cross functional teams in collaboration to produce effective results.Primary Duties and Responsibilities:Define and Manage FitUnderstand standard fit specifications within each category and/or product group to ensure consistency throughout product linesMeasure samples to ensure accuracy from vendorsPrepare and correct pattern to fit intent/fitting commentsUtilize existing or new pattern to restructure and/or enhance our productsReview and fit samples on models – provide support for fit recommendations to Design, Development, and Merchandising teamsInitiate fit sessions including but not limited to model selection, scheduling, and model management, organize 3D sample fit sessionProduct Construction ProcessCreate/update the tech pack in ExcelUpdate sketches in Adobe Illustrator to keep them current in tech packsCreate detailed construction drawing in Illustrator as needed to communicate design details and construction to factories and team membersStyle Documentation and CommunicationEnsure consistent and organized development documentation is maintained for assigned styles, i.e. tech pack, development style count, and sample tracking reportsAudit and comment on prototypesCreate and update visual representation of style in line drawing formatCreate detailed construction drawing as needed to communicate design to factory and team membersCreation of and maintenance of tech packsEffectively communicate technical design specifications and modifications to category cross functional team membersSanMar overseas branch and Direct supplier communications Communicate precisely with overseas branches or Direct suppliers on all technical issues and a stronger understand of garment fit and constructionsPartner with cross-functional team internally to meet the all product development due dates Work closely with the suppliers to meet the crucial deadlines by providing technical expertise to proceed with sample approval timeline efficientlyRequirements for Position:Knowledge of garment construction, material construction and properties, and patternmakingAdequate skills and understanding of pattern work assessmentUnderstanding of the design and development process from inception through productionKnowledge of garment fit and the ability to give instructions on necessary changes to a pattern to influence the fitStrong information seeking and problem-solving skillsStrong time management and organizational skillsAttention to detail and the ability to communicate written and verbal information clearly and effectivelyAbility to work independently and cooperatively in a diverse groupStrong proficiency in computer skills including Excel, Adobe Illustrator, digital camera, Gerber AccumarkWorking knowledge in Gerber Accumark pattern making system or equivalent pattern making software experiencesWorking knowledge in 3D Digital software, 3D product development internally, the collaboration 3D work with suppliersQualifications:Associates or bachelor”s degree in Apparel/Textile design or a related field highly preferredMinimum 3 years+ experience in Technical Design in apparel industryPhysical Demands:While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to use hands to finger, handle or feel; frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. The employee is regularly required to stand and walk. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.Work Environment:Work environment is moderately quiet office environment.
