Medical Assistant – Ambulatory Float Team

The Ambulatory Float Team provides short and long term coverage for both planned and unplanned absences of the Ambulatory Care Division.

This is a great opportunity to learn about our clinics first hand through various rotations!As part of daily duties, Medical Assistants assist health care professionals in the examination and treatment of ambulatory patients in a variety of clinic settings by performing duties such as preparation of patient and environment for treatment, conducting basic laboratory and electrocardiogram tests, care of the patient post-treatments, patient education, and clerical reception functions.RESPONSIBILITIESPrepare patients for and assist health care professionals with proceduresSchedule routine and special procedures such as sigmoidoscopy, joint aspiration, surgical biopsy, amniocentesis, and lumbar puncturePresent portions of the pre
– and post-procedure patient education sessions.

Perform procedures including ear irrigation, urethral catheterization, and sterile dressing changesPerform basic laboratory examinations, venipuncture, and 12-lead electrocardiogram including rhythm strips, pregnancy testing, and throat culturesMonitor patient’s condition following proceduresObserve and document in the medical record the patient’s physical and emotional condition and vital signsRecognize and report symptomalogy of common medical illnesses to physician or nurseSchedule new and return appointmentsUse computer system to check patients in and out of clinicsPrepare medical record for clinic visit and document information to complete patient check-in processVerify presence of medical records and x-rays prior to scheduled appointmentsRequest existing records and x-rays as necessaryTransport patients and lab specimensMonitor patient flow in clinic to assure efficient clinic operationsComplete billing documents verifying the correctness of charges and that diagnoses have been obtainedRespond to patient billing questions referring as necessary to appropriate sourceOrder medical and clerical suppliesStock examination roomsPerform front desk reception duties: appointment scheduling/rescheduling, check-in/out, multi-line phone answering, etc.Perform related medical assistant duties as required.REQUIREMENTSCompletion of a Medical Assistant course accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) or Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES) or other recognized regional or national accreditation board;OR equivalent education/experience.LEGAL REQUIREMENTMust be Washington State Medical Assistant-Certified or achieve this designation during the probationary period.
