Head Men”s Tennis Coach

Work Schedule:PT; Monday-Friday, work schedule varies.

Evening and weekend work required.The position is currently Jan-May, with the possibility of ongoing employment.

General Description:Pacific Lutheran University is seeking an experienced coaching professional for the position of Head Coach for its Mens Tennis program.

PLU is a member of the Northwest Conference and an NCAA Division III institution.

This position reports to the Interim Director of Athletics.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:Provide leadership, organization and supervision for all aspects of the mens tennis program to ensure a competitive and successful program following all NCAA Division III Northwest Conference and university rules and regulations.Identify, attract, and matriculate outstanding student-athletes who demonstrate the ability to be academically and athletically successful.Verify eligibility of student-athletes according to established university regulations.Prepare and manage the mens tennis budget following purchasing and spending guidelines as set by the University and athletic department.Schedule all competitive events and complete all travel arrangements.Coordinate all practice activities.Coordinate off season training programs.Monitor the academic progress of student-athletes.Hire, evaluate, and supervise assistant coaching staff.Develop positive public relations with all internal and external constituents.Perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:Knowledge of and commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.Clear understanding and knowledge of the sport of tennis to develop a competitive program.Excellent organizational, planning, supervisory, and problem-solving skills.Excellent written and oral communication skills.Strong recruiting, teaching, and coaching skills.Computer literacy.Ability to collaborate and communicate with a wide variety of students, parents, alumni, faculty, departmental staff, administration, and the general public.Ability to build and maintain positive relationships with student-athletes and athletics alumni.Clear understanding of and commitment to the NCAA Division III philosophy and the role of athletics within a private, liberal arts university.

Required Qualifications:Bachelors degree.Two years of successful coaching experience.CPR/First Aid certification required and may be obtained on the job.Valid drivers license (Must have had a valid drivers license for at least 2 years).Finalist applicants must satisfactorily complete pre-employment background check, declaration regarding sexual misconduct, provide an original copy of their Driving record (5-year Employment Abstract) and pass PLUs internal Drivers Certification Training.

Preferred Qualifications:Masters degree.Previous coaching and recruiting experience at the collegiate level is highly desirable.
