* DutiesHelpDutiesSummaryYou will serve as a Non-Nuclear Ships Systems Inspector in the Quality Assurance Office of PSNS and IMF.Learn more about this agencyResponsibilities* You will perform inspections and prepare inspection reports and test deficiency reports for work specifications on mechanical, piping, structural system component parts and sub assemblies related to naval ships.* You will perform inspections in other Quality Assurance areas such as inspecting Critical Coated paint and preservation processes.* You will complete, review and maintain various Objective Quality Evidence (OQE) documentation records of inspections performed.* You will witness shop and shipboard tests to verify component, equipment and system strength and tightness requirements are satisfactory.* You will certify and document operational and other tests.* You will maintain appropriate qualifications and training skills associated with Quality Assurance Inspector requirements.* You will establish and maintain proficiency in generic material identification processes such as Acid Spot Testing, Mechanical Property Testing (hardness testing), Precision Measurement, etc.Travel RequiredOccasional travel – You may be expected to travel for this position.Supervisory statusNoPromotion Potential13* Job family (Series)3801 Miscellaneous Metal Work* RequirementsHelpRequirementsConditions of Employment* Must be a US Citizen.* Must be determined suitable for federal employment.* Must participate in the direct deposit pay program.* New employees to the Department of the Navy will be required to successfully pass the E-Verify employment verification check. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required.* This is a bargaining unit position.* Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.* You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.* You must be able to successfully pass a Jaeger -1 eye examination.QualificationsAlthough a specific length of time and experience is not required for most trade and labor occupations, you must show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying.
