The CISO division is responsible for promoting a culture of cybersecurity.

Services are designed to help UW units understand risks by analyzing and forecasting threats to information security, researching applicable information security laws, providing education on safeguarding institutional information, consulting on incident management, and managing policies and strategic solutions for UW’s institutional information.UW-IT has an outstanding opportunity for a Senior Cybersecurity Advisor.The Senior Cybersecurity Advisor in CISO must be a highly experienced professional with strong subject matter expertise and skills to work effectively in a dynamic, demanding, and multifaceted environment.

This person must possess a keen intellect and have a fundamental affinity for dealing with complex issues where many criteria matter to varying degrees to different constituencies.This position acts as a liaison between UW-IT, Facilities Services, and UW students, faculty, and staff as a whole in order to address the change in global technology systems
– particularly Internet of Things (IoT) Systems and interconnectivity
– which have driven a very rapid increase in risk to information systems that directly or indirectly support campus.

The University of Washington has a large, complex, and geographically distributed set of IoT Systems and devices that support safety, campus operations, the built environment, teaching, learning, and research.

Guidance, coordination, partnership, and risk mitigation are needed across multiple systems and functions of the university such as Building Automation Systems, HVAC, networked surveillance, and systems supporting research.The person in this position must have the ability to work with a range of people from senior administrative leaders to staff in a timely and professional manner across multiple institutional boundaries and departments.

This person will support the mission of the Office of the Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) by championing IoT risk mitigation and awareness as well as facilitating the adoption of effective cybersecurity risk management practices.

This person will be part of a multi-disciplined team that works to: understand, scope, and communicate the institutional risk associated with the rapid growth of IoT Systems and devices deployed on campus networks; understand the cybersecurity risks associated with complex environments and information systems; effectively communicate those risks to both technical and non-technical audiences to add value and inform decision-making; research cyber threats and provide relevant briefings; contribute to the creation of tools to promote cybersecurity best practices; and contribute to the overall goals of the office.

While not limited to IoT related work, IoT risk mitigation will be a substantial focus area.

The person in this position will work cross-functionally with various business partners throughout the organization, collaborate with management on their respective teams, and foster relationships to help drive trust and strong working relationships with the CISO office, as well as good cybersecurity principles.REQUIREMENTS:Bachelor’s Degree in computer science, information management, engineering, mathematics, or a related field.Four years of relevant experience and progressive responsibility working in an IT service delivery or advisory capacity in a large enterprise environment.Demonstrated written, verbal, and listening skills to effectively communicate with and advise technical and non-technical audiences.Demonstrated deductive reasoning, critical thinking, problem solving skills.Demonstrated interpersonal skills to help solve risk problems and influence, motivate, persuade, mentor and train diverse groups or individuals.Ability to conceptualize new ideas and complex technical matters quickly.Ability to organize time and resources effectively.Ability to work with a diverse constituency, in collaborative groups, building consensus and fostering ongoing relationships.Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.DESIRED:Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.Experience working in or with a facilities organization and non-traditional computing systems, i.e.
