The College of Education has an outstanding opportunity for a Senior Director of Community Engagement.

The Senior Director of Community Engagement, reporting to the Executive Director, will support Cultivate Learning’s core value to increase equity and inclusion in systems that support children, youth and families.

The position will provide leadership, guidance and coordination for Cultivate Learning’s continuing efforts toward implementation of anti-racist practices, promoting racial equity in all initiatives, strengthening engagement of communities in research, evaluation and resource development and building a more inclusive culture, where staff from all backgrounds thrive and organization’s work and products are empowered by diverse perspectives.

The Senior Director of Community Engagement will be a trusted partner to team leaders and play a critical role in developing, driving and communicating a holistic diversity, equity and belonging strategy at the center.

The ideal candidate will have a proven ability and experience to lead racial equity and inclusion initiatives, improve leadership capabilities across an organization and usefully shift organizational culture to meet equity goals.

RESPONSIBILITIES: Resource Development and Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) Oversee a team to conduct a diversity, equity and inclusion audit of EarlyEdU courses and other Cultivate Learning trainings.

Use audit results to establish and oversee an advisory group of practitioners, instructors and instructional designers to prioritize revisions as required by Funder Provide strategic direction for staff diversity education and training and professional development initiatives to build and sustain a climate of equity and inclusion.

Advise, assist, and support the development and implementation of curriculum related to internal and external learning communities, leadership, transition, and career focused programming.

Meet regularly with the Executive Director and philanthropic and government funders to inform contract deliverables.

Advise and support all Cultivate Learning units in utilizing digital and social media platforms with an awareness of diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Work with teams across the center to apply diversity, belonging and equity principles and strategies to our programs, training and product development.

Conduct regular diversity audits of Cultivate Learning systems.

Collaborate with Cultivate Learning to develop and collect performance measurement goals as related to diversity, equity and inclusion, work to ensure that metrics are accessible and lead to accountability.

Effectively leverage existing reports and participate in the development of new reports to support data needs.

Assist staff in determining public response and messaging on a variety of complex, sensitive, or controversial issues impacting Cultivate Learning and the University.

Network with professional organizations related to growing and supporting diversity, equity and inclusion goals and initiatives.

Provide updates to the PI, Senior Directors, and Senior Management Team regarding diversity and inclusion efforts.

Support Cultivate Learning units so that they are informed and empowered to make thoughtful and strategic decisions that are in support of the College of Education and Cultivate Learning’s equity, inclusion, and diversity goals.

Maintains a strong awareness of diversity and equity issues; educates others on the team and across the organization on relevant practices.

Collaborate with partner organizations’ diversity councils, and serve as expert on various committees and teams, both internally, locally, across the state and throughout the country.

Strategic Planning and Implementation Lead Cultivate Learning in reviewing, building upon and implementing the diversity, belonging and equity (DBE) plan which focuses on leadership development, performance management, recruiting, employee engagement, training and employee retention.

Convene an interdisciplinary team across the University and in partnership with community stakeholders to review Cultivate Learning projects and priorities in an effort to collaborate across university centers, foster research/community-based partnerships and engage community voice.

Serve as a strategic leader and subject matter expert, helping to support a common vision around Cultivate Learning’s commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion and belonging, that can be shared amongst faculty, staff, community partners and stakeholders.

Assist in the development of strategies and processes that promote the hiring, retention, and success of a diverse and inclusive staff.

Advise on the development of programs and policies that support the recruitment and retention of diverse and underrepresented populations.

Ensure consistency in gathering data related to Cultivate Learning’s diversity, belonging and equity goals including internal center climate surveys.

Develop and monitor key performance indicators and analyze and share observations regarding internal and external equity metrics.

Recommend relevant adaptation of Cultivate Learning activities and actions in accordance with our learning.

Engage with College of Education, Cultivate Learning, and community partners groups on a regular basis.

Analyze, develop, make recommendations for, and manage a budget for initiatives related to diversity, equity, inclusion/belonging, and supporting employee engagement with those values.

Demonstrate and maintain a professional commitment to current best practices regarding diversity, equity, and inclusion/belonging programming for staff.

Establish strategic partnerships with key external organizations to advance Cultivate Learning’s goals and outcomes related to DBE.

Partner with UW’s Office of Equal Opportunity and Affirmative Action, and the Office of Minority Affairs & Diversity to ensure that Cultivate Learning’s work is in line with the university’s diversity blueprint and connect Cultivate Learning with resource groups, events, and initiatives to support diversity, equity, and inclusion programming.

Oversee diversity and inclusion efforts led by Diversity, Belonging and Equity Committee.

Working collaboratively with Cultivate Learning Senior Managers and the College of Education’s Advancement team, to develop and participate in fundraising efforts for programs that are in support of the College’s diversity mission Program Operations Key member of the Senior Leadership Team Support communication efforts with Creative Director to ensure communication is effective across diverse audiences and communicate diversity, belonging and equity principles both internally and externally.

Analyze, develop, make recommendations for, and manage a budget for initiatives related to diversity, belonging and equity.

Scan philanthropic and legislative landscapes for growth opportunities and lead response to proposals as appropriate.

Provide consultation on equity and inclusion in decision making, outreach and communication throughout the center.

Enhance opportunities across the center for improved relationships and collaboration among people and teams that are characterized by respect, transparency and accountability.

Support staff development around diversity, equity and belonging topics through individual coaching and consultation to teams.

Offer center wide professional development to support equitable practices and address specific skill gaps.

Perform other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor’s degree in education, public policy, social service or other related degree, to include five years’ experience and demonstrated proficiency in developing, managing, and overseeing a diversity, equity, and inclusion plans.

Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS: Deep understanding of societal systems of bias and ability to communicate the complex and nuanced issues, and to be strategic, visionary, transformative, and tactical while playing close attention to delivering tangible results.

Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills including the ability to develop communications and frame issues for expert and lay audiences alike.

Strong track record as a collaborative, facilitative leader of diverse teams who values respect, care and empathy.

Skilled at navigating and decoding organizational and ecosystem dynamics including the ability to productively engage, influence and partner with all levels of the organization.

Project management and problem-solving skills, ability to set priorities and manage multiple projects and competing deadlines.

Demonstrated analytical and quantitative writing ability, strong preference given to candidates with proposal writing experience Background in public policy, education, community organizing, nonprofit direct service or community social work as demonstrated by education or relevant work experience.

Demonstrated experience working effectively with individuals from diverse and marginalized communities, including specific experience with American Indians; people of color, including underrepresented groups and new immigrant populations; people with both visible and invisible DESIRED EXPERIENCE Supervisory experience.

Experience with all aspects of the hiring process: recruitment, training, and retention.

Experience working in community-based settings addressing the needs of diverse communities.

Knowledge of federal and state laws and regulations governing education, release of public information, and equal employment opportunity and affirmative action.
