Senior Program Manager – Privacy


This is a Full-time position in Redmond, WA posted December 6, 2021.

Come join the team responsible for delivering the Visual Studio family of products, Azure SDK, and many Developer Services.

We pair world class editing, debugging, and diagnostic tools with cloud services to create developer experiences for building next-generation applications and services that target a variety of devices and platforms, including Windows, iOS, Android, Azure and more.

These vital developer experiences and technologies need to meet or exceed users’ privacy expectations.

The Developer Division Release Team is looking for a Privacy Program Manager who will partner with engineering teams that create products, services, applications, and platform functionality to promote transparency and achieve compliant privacy solutions.

Responsibilities The individual filling this position will:

  • Evangelize privacy principles including better integration in the development cycle.
  • Conduct technical privacy reviews for products, services, and communications; document reviews and ensure all relevant information is accounted for to help ensure compliance with audit-level requirements.
  • Evaluate features, UI, and functionality to identify and mitigate any privacy-impacting concerns.
  • Ensure Developer Division products, services, and communications comply with corporate privacy standards, as well as other legal requirements.
  • Partner as necessary with feature teams to develop customized solutions; engage with other privacy and legal teams as necessary.
  • Propose new features, functionality, and tools to drive improvements into the Visual Studio Privacy compliance process.
  • Identify and drive escalations to the privacy team, CELA, and executive management as necessary.

We’re looking for someone with:

  • Deep knowledge and passion for end user privacy, and the ability to learn quickly and apply learnings throughout the organization.
  • Ability to apply good judgement to risk assessment.
  • Outstanding cross-group collaboration skills and proven ability to drive initiatives across organizations.
  • Ability to develop and track quality measures, metrics, and/or KPIs.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills.
  • Ability to dive into technical details of features to deliver privacy requirements and innovations.
  • A passion for deeply understanding customers.

Qualifications Basic Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of experience in a regulatory or technical role (Program Manager, Software Engineer or related)
  • 1+ years of experience with privacy regulations and policies.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Privacy Certification (CIPP, CIPM, CIPT) preferred.
  • Previous experience as part of a feature crew/team and ownership of functional specifications/plans preferred.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role.

Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
