Senior Vice President, Strategy Director

n n nn This job is open to be based from: Seattle, WA; Portland, OR; Los Angeles, CA nn nn Edelman is looking for a Senior Vice President, Strategy Director, to help us create the kind of work that builds trust and inspires action.

nn nn Our growing team of strategists are the minds that uncovered the insights that led to some of 2020’s most talked about campaigns, from realizing that a popular ice cream truck jingle had racist roots then writing a new one with RZA from Wu-Tang Clan , to discovering that U.S.

fathers don’t have access to paid paternity leave then starting a national movement towards a federal paid leave policy .

Now we need an SVP, Strategy Director with a finely tuned cultural radar to help craft the insights and strategies for game changing work in 2021 and beyond.

nn nn We know you are thinking, “isn’t Edelman a PR company?” Sure, public relations is part of who we are, but in recent years we have grown our surrounding departments and evolved into a next generation kind of agency that sits at the intersection of public relations and advertising.

nn nn Location: once offices reopen, we will want this hire to be based in Seattle or Portland.

nn nn Skill & Attribute Requirements nn nBrand Strategy Craftn You know how agencies do brand strategy.

You are familiar with the processes and tools that take clients from problem to solution to strategy to execution.

Experience in an advertising, social, digital, or public relations agency setting.

Familiarity with agency planning models, capabilities and how they are evolving within the industry.

Experience driving primary research and leading secondary research (based on core research skills such as designing and executing ethnographies, focus groups and brand workshops, as well as data analysis.) Passion for consumer brands, the role they play in people’s lives and how companies can elevate and should evolve in the ever-changing media landscape.

Solid grasp of brand strategy and marketing communications within client organizations, including the ability to counsel clients through strong, thought-provoking partnership.

Ability to navigate the intersection of culture, brands, and audiences from new angles to arrive at deeper insights, more provocative marketing strategies and breakthrough brand-building platforms.

Deft at developing powerful narratives that deliver on insights, inspire stakeholders, and influence strategic focus internally and externally.

nCreative Stewardship n You are creative, and understand creativity.

You have worked with creatives, and many of them want to work with you again.

You know how brands come to life creatively in 2021, especially in earned media.

Experience crafting dynamite creative briefs, and briefing creatives with them.

A deep understanding of how brands show up in the world, and what it takes to drive people to action, ultimately generating cultural attention and inspiring action.

Experiencing giving, receiving, and responding to creative feedback.

Deep understanding of the role that earned media and social media play in consumers lives and the overall communications marketing mix.

nLeadership/Managementn You know that leadership and management are different.

You have done both.

Strong, proven management skills, including the ability to build, grow and mentor a team from the ground up.

Experience partnering with Resource Management to ensure Strategy team is appropriately staffed to the client need and potential.

Passion for sharing innovation, industry/sector trends as well as shifting cultural norms and consumer expectations.

You are good with words and people.

Inspiring presentation skills and the ability to thoughtfully articulate complex solutions in a straightforward and lucid manner to a variety of internal and external audiences, up to the C-level.

Demonstration of cultural competence and ability to counsel, advise and continually evolve DEI initiatives and best practices within brands and culture.

A true collaborator, able to work across creative, account, subject matter experts and client constituents, and alongside fellow strategists at all levels.

Proven track record of building effective interpersonal relationships with agency leadership and clients, and successfully navigating matrixed organizations.

Skillful stakeholder management, experience shepherding work through review by internal and external senior leaders.

A growth mindset, willing to learn, change and adapt to new clients, new workstyles, and an appetite for constructive feedback.  nPreferred Qualificationsn A portfolio of brilliant insights leading to effective consumer-facing campaigns, ideally one that includes award winning work.

Has played a significant role in successfully winning new business and helping to drive organic growth on existing client business.

Experience establishing a new brand, leading a “Challenger Brand” to greater prominence, or reinventing an established brand so that it is now flourishing again and able to speak to the results of these efforts.

POV on Edelman’s Trust Barometer and how it can be applied to consumer brands as well as agency positioning.

Experience with MRI, Iconoculture, ComScore, Quid, eMarketer, etc.
